Maestro Kelly Thompson leads the Symphony in the Valley on October 13th and 14th in their fall concert, “Before they were famous.”

Represented are young composers from around the world and around the corner. Local young composer Ian Pasternak presents his work, “First Suite for Military Band.” His friend from Chile, Alfredo Rivera Gonzalez, has composed “El Rodeo,” to which the SITV will be performing the fourth movement. “La Soledad de un Sueño” by Lucas Velasquez is a hauntingly lush portrait of loneliness. The SITV revisits a favorite composer in Soon Hee Newbold with her “A Pirate’s Legend” and “American Landscape.” These modern masterpieces are framed by music of Bartok and Accolay with the violin virtuosity of our very own concert master, Thyme Fortin.

Performances will be at the Ute Theater in Rifle CO on October 13 at 7 pm and at the New Hope Church in New Castle, CO on Saturday, October 14 at 2 pm. The cost for adults at the door is 25, presale 20. The cost for children and seniors is 20 at the door, presale 15. Music students are free with an accompanied paid adult. 3 concert season tickets are available; 65 for adults and 45 for children and seniors.
